International Association for the Study of Pain

Postdoctoral Research Associate
Description
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Derek Molliver at the University of New England, Department of Biomedical Sciences, in Biddeford, ME. R01-funded projects in the laboratory focus on cell signaling mechanisms related to G protein-coupled receptors and the regulation of mitochondrial function in the neurobiology of pain, using models of mouse and human sensory neurons. Recent findings implicate cellular bioenergetics as a significant component of nociceptor plasticity in the development of chronic pain states. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills to join our team. The laboratory is a member of the highly collaborative UNE Center for the Study of Pain and Sensory Function, with expertise in biochemistry, physiology, bioinformatics and behavior and access to excellent core facilities.
The successful candidate will benefit from a structured postdoctoral training program with mentorship provided by a postdoctoral advisory committee, based on the core competencies established by the National Postdoctoral Association (https://www.nationalpostdoc.org/page/CoreCompetencies). Salaries are set at 15% above the NIH NRSA pay scale, with competitive benefits.
The UNE Biddeford campus is located 30 minutes south of Portland, ME, 90 minutes north of Boston by car or train. The campus lies at a beautiful location on the mouth of the Saco River at the Atlantic Ocean, and includes the College of Osteopathic Medicine (Maine's only medical school) and the undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in the life sciences and have a strong publication record. Ideal candidates will have expertise in applications related to protein sample preparation and separation techniques, mass spectrometry proteomics and/or functional imaging (wide-field, confocal and 2-photon fluorescence imaging of genetically-encoded biosensors, calcium imaging and high content imaging), and an interest in applying these applications in the neurobiology of pain.
