Veterinary Assistant - NeurologyFull-time:
San Antonio, TX
Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists (TPHS) is looking for a Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You
Work as part of a cohesive team performing patient imaging, assisting with unique neurologic examinations, and tests including on-site CT & MRI, and assisting with anesthesia and neurosurgery. There is a large client communication component to this position.
Role Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Assist veterinary technician or neurologist with conducting examinations and obtaining complete histories, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging
- Assisting veterinary technicians with patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications or drugs.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine and digital radiography positioning
- Ability to handle high caseloads and stressful situations in a professional manner
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacology
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude and detail oriented
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Assisting in Small animal surgery & recovery
- Assisting with setting up for MRI and CT procedures
- Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions
- Follow OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous materials
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience in a fast-paced veterinary hospital or clinic, neurology or specialty preferred
- Must have anesthesia experience
- Certified veterinary assistant (CVA) certification preferred or willingness to obtain CVA certification within six months of employment
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, clinicians, staff and pet owners
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
- Must be available for on call shifts at least one weekend per month and holidays as required
