The Back Pain Management Nurse is a clinical professional responsible for supporting physicians during the clinical care of patients, to include recording intake histories and assisting with procedures. This role serves as a vital link between the patient and the physician, ensuring a safety and comfort during interventional treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Procedural Assistance: Prepare procedure rooms with necessary supplies and sterile instruments. Assist physicians during interventional spine procedures (e.g., epidurals, nerve blocks, or spinal cord stimulator trials) by positioning patients and handling equipment.
- Patient Triage & Preparation: Escort patients to exam rooms, measure vital signs, and document medical histories and current pain levels in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Clinical Support: Perform routine clinical tasks such urine specimen collection for drug screening, and other duties as directed by the provider.
- Patient Education: Provide pre- and post-procedure instructions, explaining treatment plans and answering patient questions regarding their care.
- Administrative Duties: Manage chart preparation, obtain necessary signatures for treatment decisions, and fulfilling medication refills as directed by the provider.
- Room Maintenance: Sterilize medical instruments and restock exam/procedure rooms to ensure they are ready for the next patient.
Qualifications & Skills
- Licensure: An active Registered Nurse (RN) license is preferred.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a clinical setting; experience in interventional pain management or orthopedics is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with EMR systems and knowledge of sterile techniques and basic anatomy.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate bedside manner for patients dealing with chronic pain.
