Department Administrator | Anesthesiology
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine, seeks an experienced and motivated financial and administrative leader to serve as Department Administrator. This pivotal role provides strategic and operational leadership in support of the department’s clinical, research, and educational missions.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Department Chair, the Department Administrator serves as the chief financial and administrative officer for the department. The Administrator directs financial management, operational planning, and human resources initiatives while partnering closely with department leadership to advance strategic priorities. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring fiscal stewardship, operational efficiency, policy compliance, and continuous process improvement across a large and complex academic clinical department.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the lead financial administrator for the department, overseeing fiscal planning, management, and reporting.
Prepare and manage the annual operating budget, including ongoing income and expense analysis, forecasting, and variance reporting.
Provide oversight of purchasing, contracts, grants administration, and financial compliance in accordance with University and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with all University of Kentucky and Human Resources policies and procedures, and proactively recommend policy and process improvements.
Oversee faculty and staff affairs, including HR coordination, staffing models, performance management, and employee relations.
Provide leadership for facilities planning and space management to support clinical, research, and educational activities.
Supervise administrative staff and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
Lead and participate in strategic initiatives and special projects that support departmental growth, innovation, and long-term sustainability.
Collaborate with college, hospital, and university stakeholders to support operational excellence and mission alignment.
About the Department
The UK College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine is a robust and multidisciplinary department dedicated to improving health across Kentucky and beyond. The department is organized into three financial divisions encompassing 11 revenue-generating specialty areas: General Anesthesia, Pediatric Anesthesia, Cardiac Anesthesia, Obstetric Anesthesia, Neuroanesthesia, Regional Pain, Trauma Anesthesia, Non-Operating Room (Non-OR) Anesthesia, Perioperative Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Chronic Pain.
The department is comprised of more than 300 faculty, advanced practice providers, staff, and learners, including:
100 faculty members
130 advanced practice providers
20 staff members
More than 80 residents and fellows across five accredited training programs

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
The preferred candidate will possess strong financial acumen and leadership ability. MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook required. Additional experience with electronic medical records (EPIC) and financial/reporting systems (Tableau/Axiom) preferred.
